I’m still trying to get a handle on this whole “digital art” thing. I’m not so good at manipulating things that I can’t actually touch. I’m sticking to abstracts, right now, because they are easy.
Polyhedron #1
Posted by Laurel Green on November 4th, 2009 at 8:00 amThis is a sort of test polyhedron for a project I’m thinking of doing. The project would be made up of much larger and more complex polyhedrons.
I’ve learned to never, ever use a glue stick to construct a polyhedron ever again. Also, I will probably have to apply a sealant to the structures to strengthen them, unless I make them out of something thicker.
Self-Similarity
Posted by Laurel Green on November 3rd, 2009 at 6:20 amI’ve enjoyed fractals since I learned about the Mandelbrot set, when I was about age eight. Now that I’ve discovered the fractal rendering program, Apophysis, I can make my very own fractals. And, thus, an all-consuming obsession is born.
Do magenta and brown go together? Is the combination against one of those style rules that I’ve been ignoring all my life? Clashing is good. Clashing is interesting.
…Monochrome can be interesting, though, as well.
With all the bizillions of snowflakes that fall and the fact that snowflake formation has to obey certain rules (always with the hexagons), you’d think that you could find two identical ones. Humans growth has to obey certain rules as well, but even identical twins have different fingerprints. We’re all special.
I’ve alway wanted to visit a nebula, but I have this sinking feeling that seeing gas close-up isn’t as interesting as seeing it from faraway.
I’m blue da ba dee da ba die (repeat ad naseum). I ate you Eiffel 65. So much.
One of the best parts about painting is the first time you dip the brush into the water and the colour goes swirling around.
See if you can count all the circles in this picture. It will drive you mad.
The low-res versions of these fractal renderings don’t really do them justice. You can get a .rar of the hi-res versions here: https://rapidshare.com/files/301824477/fractals.rar
Fibonacci’s Revenge
Posted by Laurel Green on November 2nd, 2009 at 8:17 amI was dissatisfied with my previous attempt at a Fibonacci Spiral – it was too busy-, so I’ve made a new, improved version. Marvel at the beautiful geometry the Gold Ratio can create!

NaBloPoMo
Posted by Laurel Green on November 1st, 2009 at 2:51 pmNaBloPoMo stands for “National Blog Posting Month”. It’s basically just an event where you post every day for a month. This year, I’ve decided to participate, because, honestly, I really need to post some more content up on this blog. So, check back every day, this month, for new content!
… Also, I really want to win one of the Sock Zombies.
Line Art
Posted by Laurel Green on October 26th, 2009 at 4:18 pmI was digging through my archives and I found these crazy line drawings that I did years ago.
They’re not as crazy as they look. Once you get the hang of “Snap To Grid” you can pop one of these guys out in like 30 minutes. (Click the thumbnails for bigger, if you dare. Muahahah…)
This one above here is a completely new one that I made yesterday. The hardest part was the Fibonacci Spiral, because it involved taking six circles, chopping them up and attaching them together.
Pixel Binge
Posted by Laurel Green on October 9th, 2009 at 7:22 amI’ve been having pangs of nostalgia lately, so I made some animated .gif’s in 16 amazing colours. (Actually, I didn’t even use all 16. Shhhh… Don’t tell anyone.)
Set this as your background in Windows 3.1 and prepare to have your mind blown!
Or, use this slight variation. It has circles!
When they were choosing the 16 colours, why didn’t they make one of them orange? Was it a hardware issue? 386′s just couldn’t process orange? They had four blues!
I think there should be a way to capitalize numbers for the beginning of sentences. That one sentence looks weird.

I tried to make some stars out of tin foil, but it didn’t work out. I made the stars out of magazine pages, instead.

My favourite one is the blue cylindrical one.
